There are so many diets out there, it can be difficult to pick one that works for you. Many of them claim to be rapid weight loss diets, but end up falling short only after you’ve spent months of time and hundreds of dollars on membership fees and food provided by the diet company. So how can you tell whether a diet will work or not?

The answer is to look at the principles upon which the diet is based. There are fundamentally only two ways to lose weight. Of those two ways, only one is feasible as the foundation of rapid weight loss diets.

The first way is to reduce your overall calorie intake-in other words, to eat less. You can lose weight this way, as long as your overall calorie intake doesn’t drop below a sustainable level. However, keep in mind that if you eat less, your body will slow down your metabolism to conserve energy. For this reason, caloric reduction is not a good solution for rapid weight loss-you can do it but you’re fighting a slow, uphill battle.

The second way is to increase the number of calories you burn. This can be accomplished gradually through exercise, or more quickly through diet changes of a different sort. Employing a technique called calorie shifting, which involves modifying your meal routine, you can actually stimulate your metabolism and cause it to increase. The result is that you burn calories (and lose weight) without actually changing your daily routine. Remember that it’s easy to burn 1,000 calories a day just by sitting around-with a calorie shifting regime that can easily become 1,200 or more calories per day.

The most popular calorie shifting diet on the market is FatLoss4Idiots. This FatLoss4Idiots review provides more detail about how the FatLoss4Idiots program works.
